Tweddle owes a great deal to Jim Hevey for capturing Tweddle’s History.

Jim was born 11 weeks premature on the 8th of August 1939 at Kelvin Grove Private Hospital in Yarraville. He was not expected to live through the night.  He was taken to the Footscray Tweddle Baby Hospital which was known to treat premature babies.

After Jim’s mother’s death in 2010, he discovered among his mother’s possessions Tweddle’s 20th Annual General Report (1940) and approached Tweddle with an offer of researching a historical tribute. He has been a dear Friend of Tweddle ever since.

“There is no doubt in my mind that I owe my survival to the treatment and expertise of the medical staff and nurses at that time” Jim Hevey

Tweddle gratefully acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government and Public Record Office Victoria for making this project possible. We also thank the Footscray Historical Society for their support.

You can follow Tweddle’s Centenary Facebook page to keep in touch with past and present staff and families as we share their stories.
